Old house-red Bank of Commerce - Current Pedro Wayne Culture house. The Old Red House, located on the street September 7 corner General Nestor, was founded in 1902 by the firm Affonso Garrastazú & Cia. It was part of the company, Mr. Alcibiades Gotan that, from 1915, became the sole owner . It was considered one of the most tasteful homes and luxury of time. The clothes came directly from Europe. There were items for ladies, gentlemen and children, perfume, shoes, offal, and wet and dry. In 1919, the building was sold to Bank of Commerce. The bank worked on the street 7th of September, corner February 3, since it opened on 1 October 1917 (current City Council). He was manager at the time Pedro Carlos Peixoto. In the 20s, the building of the former Red House was demolished and then built a new Agency of the National Trade Bank. The project was Henry Tobal. The inauguration took place on May 15, 1929, and manager at the time Manuel Rodrigues Athayde. The upper floor was for the manager's house. After a few years, the National Bank of Commerce has merged with the Bank of the Province and the Industrial and Commercial Bank and became South Brazilian. This building housed the South Brazilian Bank until its dissolution. Upstairs, after the Bank worked to Emilio Medici Foundation. In the 90s, the building was purchased by the municipality, in the administration of Mayor Luiz Alberto Vargas and today houses on the ground floor, the "CULTURAL SPACE - HOUSE OF CULTURE PEDRO WAYNE" (opened in 1987).
Pedro Wayne
Pedro Wayne - Born in Salvador , Bahia, on February 26 , 1904. He came to live in Pelotas, in 1906 , where he stayed until 1927 , moving to Bage , as an employee of the Bank Pelotense . He married in 1928 with Leopoldina Almeida Calo . He took up arms in 1930 and in 1932 was into the city of Bage work in the father Charqueada . In 1934 , he returned to Bage , where he began to fight fascism . With the bankruptcy of Pelotense Bank, Pedro Wayne went on to make a living as a truck driver , traveling councilor , journalist , accountant of a hospital and a farm shop, substitute Municipal Judge and " planter " of wheat . However, he was immortalized as a poet and writer. He left several works . He was the father of Ernesto Wayne , poet .
